A massive media activity is being planned through radio, TV, print, out-door media. Engaging more people in accident prevention is crucial in cutting the number of casualties on Indian roads, Kamal J Soi, President of Raahat said: “There are still far too many people dying on Indian roads. We must look at new ways of getting road safety messages across to drivers of all ages if we are to stop more families suffering from the tragedy of a loved one being lost. More than 100,000 people die and 300,000 people are injured every year causing a loss of more than Rs 60,000 crore every year.

“To do that, we need cooperation from everyone in India - from drivers, road safety experts, the police, young people and others. Raahat -The Safe community Foundation where “Road safety is way of life” is in the field of road safety since 2006 and is currently working on a new 10-year road safety strategy for India, drawing on the expertise of some of our leading thinkers on road safety, but we want engagement from all in this process.

We are organising conferences on road safety in various forums and places which are vital in sharing ideas and experiences, said Kamal J Soi.

Among the other items on the programme are reports on the success of neighbourhood road safety initiatives in Australia, Newzealand and other developing countries, funded by various national / international / private / government organisations by which we engage local communities in innovative projects to reduce the high numbers of road casualties seen in deprived areas.
