Kolkata It is politics over protocol for Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee. On Saturday she did not receive Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at the city airport and later avoided attending any of his functions.

She did not even meet the Prime Minister during his short stay at Raj Bhavan. Instead she was busy slamming the Central government at a rally in the heart of the city.

At a Trinamool Congress rally in Esplanade Banerjee continued her tirade against the Union government on the issue of handling of Maoists. Banerjee’s act has created a ripple in the state Congress and a Congress delegation which met Singh at Raj Bhavan took up the issue with him.

Earlier, Banerjee had made it clear in Delhi that she will not

attend any of the Prime Minister’s functions in Kolkata as

Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee was also invited in them.

Today, at the rally Banerjee slammed the UPA government for not consulting her before sending Central forces to Lalgarh and Jangalmahal.

“The Centre can talk to the state government on any issue. But, though we are the second largest constituent of the UPA government in Delhi, the Union government did not bother to consult us before sending its forces to Jangalmahal,” Banerjee told the gathering.
