Railway Police edge past NNI Belgaum

Pune Railway Police narrowly defeated NNI Belgaum 4-3 in penalty strokes after being deadlocked at a goal apiece at full-time in the Ambedkar trophy Hockey tournament match held at the Ammunition Factory Hockey ground, Khadki, on Wednesday.

The game got off to a slow start with both teams gauging each other out in the first fifteen minutes. Amit Kadam drew first blood for the team from Belgaum after converting a penalty corner in the 23rd minute. NNI kept possession for the rest of the half and went into halftime with a 1-0 lead. Railway Police came back strongly in the second half and put pressure on the opposition goal. They were rewarded for their good play when in the 38th minute Rajesh Musale equalised for them after receiving a good pass from Santosh Musale. Following this, both teams made sure they did not concede another goal and the game went into penalties, which the Railways team won 4-3. Rajesh Musale, Rohidas Musale, Rajesh Sable and Amar Kadam scored for the winners while Amul Patil, Ganesh Patil and Amit Kadam scored for the losing team.

In other matches played, EME Jalandhar beat SAI Mumbai 1-0 with Jaspal Singh scoring the solitary goal and BEG Jalandhar defeated Dhanraj Pillay Academy 3-2 in penalty strokes after drawing goalless at full time. K Thakur, Ravindra Tirkey and Ajay Lakra scored for the winners while Manpreet Singh and Rahul Deokar scored for the losing team.
