Surat, January 19 A love affair and a gang war was apparently at the bottom of the gruesome murder of the youth, whose body was found recently on railway tracks near Udhna railway yard.

On Friday, the railway police arrested three youths for the murder. Three others are absconding.

The body, bearing stab injuries, its throat slit and sex organ damaged, was recovered on the night of January 14. Following post mortem at the New Civil hospital, the deceased was identified as Omprakash Rajput (19), a resident of Saibaba Nagar in Limbayat.

According to the police, the arrested youths — Manish Rajput, Vinod Rajput and Santosh Singh, all residents of Nawagam Dindoli — have confessed to the crime.

Railway police inspector H M Patel said it was a clear case of gang rivalry, which erupted after the victim tried to befriend the girlfriend of Manish Rajput.

“Manish’s brother Durgesh Rajput was murdered two months ago by a rival gang involved in liquor trade in Limbayat. Omprakash was part of Durgesh’s gang, but after the murder, he shifted to the rival Munna gang. Manish suspected him of being involved in Durgesh’s murder,” said Patel.

Quoting the confession of the accused, police said that Manish was having an affair with a college student who stays in Saibaba Nagar, Limbayat.

Omprakash tried to get friendly with the girl and told her that Manish was a criminal involved in liquor trade. Thereafter the girl broke off the relationship with Manish.

Learning that Omprakash was responsible, Manish allegedly decided to kill him.

Alongwith his friends Vinod and Santosh, Manish invited Omprakash to a liquor party.

On the night of January 14, the three of them took Omprakash to a closed godown, the police said.

Three others, Sanjay Rajput, Sunil Bihari and Irfan Daruwala, were there with liquor and food.

After the party, Manish picked up a quarrel with Omprakash and all six attacked him. They allegedly beat him up and tortured him and when he tried to escape, Manish himself slit his throat, the police said. Later, they threw the body on the railway tracks at Udhna yard and escaped.

“We have launched a search operation of the remaining accused involved in this murder case,” Patel added.
