Lucknow, March 6 In an attempt to keep railway platforms clean and garbage-free, the Northern Railways have kicked off a special sanitation drive at two of its major stations in Lucknow and Varanasi.

Lucknow’s Divisional Railway Manager Chahete Ram has constituted task forces for proper monitoring at the railway stations and also to bring violators to notice.

On the first day of the drive on Thursday, 26 people were booked at the Charbagh railway station for various offences.

“We have identified places in and around the station where people generally spit, or throw trash. The Railway will take stern action against such people in accordance with the Railway Act,” said Amitabh Kumar, Station Manager, Charbagh Railway Station.
