Kolkata The Railways have decided to blacklist the employees who are found to be involved in the sabotage on the track at Sardiha leading to derailment of the Jnaneswari Express on May 28 in which 148 people were killed.

The decision was taken after the CBI arrested Dayamay Mahato, a junior trackman of Kharagpur Division of the South-Eastern Railway, for his involvement in the incident. “We have decided to blacklist Dayamay Mahato. And if the CBI arrests any of our employees in this connection in future, we will blacklist them also. We will also take disciplinary action against them,” said A K Singh, Chief Security Commissioner, South-Eastern Railways.

Railway sources said the CBI team has zeroed in on four other employees of the Railways who were also involved in the incident. “We were given the names of four of our employees apart from Dayamai Mahato who might be involved in the incident. All of them are on the CBI radar. They are the group D staff of the Kharagpur division,” said a senior Railway official.

After the Jnaneswari incident, the South-Eastern Railways have prepared a data base of all its gangmen, linemen and other group D employees who work in the sections affected by Left-wing extremism (LWE) and who reside in the nearby villages.

“We have started maintaining the data base of all the employees who work and reside in the area. We maintain a vigil on them. Moreover, there are other intelligence agencies also who monitor their movements and keep a vigil on them to avert the sabotage at track,” added Singh.
