Patiala, January 8 Tuesday’s downpours brought shivers back in Patiala. While more than two lives were lost this winter due to drop in temperatures, the fresh rains indicate the temperatures might come down further in coming days. The downpour, however, have proved helpful to potato growers in and around the city.

Heavy fog gripping the city in the early morning hours, coupled with rain spells throughout the day hit the normal life in the city. Most of the markets remained deserted and temperature dipped further in the evening due to rains that lasted till late in the evening.

While people shivered under cold weather conditions in many areas around Patiala, farmers in nearby villages took a sigh of relief, as they believed the rains would help their potato crop. “We have incurred huge loss for the past one-month due to frost and power shortage,” stated a farmer from Sainsarwal village.

The spells also affected bus services, as commuters did not turn up due to the rainy weather. Majority of the buses departed behind schedule.
