Pune, March 4 The Pune police on Tuesday issued prohibitory orders under section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code banning Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray and his supporters from holding any public meeting, rally, press conference or attend any felicitation functions between March 4 and 13, 2008.

Joint commissioner of police Rajendra Sonwane released this order on Monday evening. Sonwane said Raj Thackeray’s statements and stand of MNS against the north Indians could create law and order problems in the city. Singh said there was no time for him to discuss with MNS leaders in Pune. He said he has prohibited the MNS chief and party workers from holding any public gatherings or functions or make any statements that could lead to violence in the city. “Those violating the orders would be considered to be an offender under section 188 of Indian Penal Code,” he said.
