Chandigarh, February 5 Students of Jaspal Bhatti’s MAD Arts Film School organised a spoof on Raj Thackeray’s controversial anti- north Indian remarks today at Sector 17 plaza. The spoof was aimed at satirising the forces that intend to divide the nation on linguistic and regional basis undermining its integrity.

A large crowd gathered in front of Neelam Cinema even before the show began. Attired in a blue-stripped suit and donning a yellow turban, Bhatti arrived at the venue and freely mingled with the passers-by and camerapersons of various channels.

The venue had been set up with banners to depict the theme - Main Punjabi, Tu Gujarati, Hai Koi Hindustani and Divide India Film Festival. The parodied lyric ¿ ‘Film Hum Jo Kahinge Wohi Dekh Babua’ based on film Don number - Yeh hai Bumbai nagariya¿ was cheered by the audience as Bhatti and his team of students danced to it.

Then on a satirical note, Bhatti unveiled the ‘Divide India Film Festival’ by MAD Arts, Jaspal Bhatti Film School, screening movies for viewers according to the region they belong to. In a comical outburst he said, “Anyone watching the movie from another region other than his own would be mercilessly beaten up before being provided first-aid.”

In his inimitable style, Bhatti announced that regional movies should be watched by people hailing from that region only and not by people of any other regional language. “ I advocate domicile and I-card check before allowing entry in the movie hall,” he said.

He even favoured reconstitution of the Censor Board entirely on political lines with only politicians as its members. He also urged the Home Ministry to ignore any violence that might erupt on the issue of watching regional language movies. Calling Raj Thakeray as the biggest ‘inspiration’ to the ethos of regional divide’, Bhatti wanted him to be honoured.

He also wished to see certification of movies by Censor Board on linguistic lines i.e. ‘M’ for Marathi, ‘PB’ for Punjabi and so on. “All Amitabh Bachchan movies should be dubbed in Marathi before being screened in Maharashtra,” he said.

In a comical undertone, he wished that all Khans of Bollywood be allowed to act only in Urdu movies. “This would bring down their rates in the market,” he quipped.

Later talking to Newsline, Bhatti expressed his desire to see the masses react forcefully against the divisive forces disintegrating the country. “We have reacted the way we do on any such significant issue; but now the fight has to be picked up by common people. As a film personality, we were required to react fast and appropriately so that the message reaches home and that’s precisely what we have done,” he said.
