Pune Rajesh Pillay Academy comprehensively defeated Hockey Lovers 2-0 in the Late Shardul Gaikwad hockey tournament organised by the Poona District Hockey Association and held at the Ammunition Factory hockey ground, Khadki on Monday.

Rajesh Pillay Academy started the game on the offensive and created many chances in the opening minutes. However, their poor finishing let them down and they failed to convert any of these chances. They kept on putting the opposition goal under attack and were rewarded for it in the 25th minute when they took the lead through Vijay Singh.

After receiving a good pass from Sanjay Pollaiya, Singh blasted the ball into the goal from the edge of the box. A few minutes later, Sanjay Pollaiya doubled the lead for his team. Pollaiya received a good pass from Nachiket Jadhav and chipped the ball over the keeper into the goal. The half ended 2-0.

The second half witnessed the Hockey Lovers contingent play with some confidence. They took the attack to the opposition and won a couple of penalty corners but failed to convert them. They created some good opportunities to pull a goal back but in vain. The match ended 2-0 in favour of Rajesh Pillay Academy.

In another match that took place, Green Meadows thrashed SRPF 4-0. Green Meadows dominated the entire game and scored at regular intervals. They took the lead in the 19th minute through Mahesh Bendhere after he received a good pass from Prashant Gaikwad. Immediately after, they extended their lead through Atul Kalate at the end of a penalty corner. Sachin Bondwe wrapped the game up in the 30th minute and Prashant Gaikwad added the icing on the cake in the 45th. The match ended 4-0.
