Lucknow Barely five days after senior Congress leaders denied any plans to field comedian Raju Srivastava as a party candidate in the Lok Sabha polls, Srivastava met state party president Rita Bahuguna Joshi at her residence on Sunday.

After the meeting, both came out with different versions.

Joshi said Srivastava had suddenly dropped in to express his desire “to campaign for the party and contest the elections from Kaushambi as he had a strong base.” On the other hand, Srivastava said the Congress had approached him, with an offer to field him as a candidate, and since he wanted to contest from Allahabad, he had come to discuss the matter with Joshi.

Srivastava said: “They are considering the option of Allahabad, which is the land of my forefathers, who used to reside in Dara Nagar area.”
