Ram Asrey, Garima to lead UP at judo nationals

Lucknow, February 13 Ram Asrey Yadav of Uttar Pradesh Police and Garima Chaudhary of Meerut will lead the UP Judo team in the Senior National Judo Championships to be held at Kochi, Kerala from February 14 to 18.

According to UP Judo Association official Munawar Anzar, altogether 20 players and officials of UP will take part in the championships.

The team:
Men’s section: Dilip Kumar Mishra (Kan), Veer Bahadur Thapa (Gzb), Yashpal (Gzb), Ram Asrey Yadav (UPP; captain), Ramji (Vns), Deepak Tyagi (UPP), Shiv Kumar (Vns); Lal Kumar (coach); Mehboob Ali (manager);
Women’s section: Manisha (Sre), Sushma (Sre), Shivani (Gzb), Anju (Gzb), Garima Chaudhary (Mrt; Captain); Landhoni Devi (Lko), Taruna Sharma (Lko), Garima (Mrt); Kashi Naresh (coach), Parvez Ali (manager).

Bridge tourney
Cdr RP Srivastava and KN Jaiswal triumphed in the matchpoint pairs event organised as part of a local bridge tourney, on Tuesday evening at Lucknow Club here.
Fifteen pairs played 11 rounds of 2 boards each. The matchpoint action was a low scoring one and was keenly contested. As many as 9 pairs scored above average scores in a spread of 4.5%. Cdr RP Srivastava and KN Jaiswal won the event with 5 tops, 5 above average and one zero.
The top two pairs played the last round against each other. The second placed pair of BB Lal and GN Mehrotra had a good last round but could not overcome the leaders. In the close contest the difference between second and third and third and fourth pair were 0.4 and 0.5 matchpoint, respectively.

The Results:-
1. Cdr RP Srivastava & KN Jaiswal 55.42%;
2. BB Lal & GN Mehrotra 53.33%;
3. BN Rastogi & Dr SK Agarwal 53.03%.
