Ranbir Hooda cremated

Chandigarh Freedom fighter Ranbir Singh Hooda was cremated today with full state honours at Samvidhan Sthal near IMT, Rohtak. Ranbir Singh, father of Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, had breathed his last at his residence in Rohtak on Sunday.

A number of political leaders and people attended the funeral. The “Shardhanjli Sabha” would be held at Jat College, Rohtak, on February 11 from 1 pm to 2 pm. Chief of Army Staff Gen Deepak Kapoor and Archana Dalmia, on behalf of AICC president Sonia Gandhi, laid wreaths at the funeral.

An announcement to raise a national memorial at Samvidhan Sthal to inspire the youth and future generations was also made. The memorial will have photographs of all members of the Constituent Assembly of India and apprise the visitors about the history of freedom of the country.

Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda thanked all those who had stood by him. Prominent among those present on the occasion were members of the Hooda family, Haryana Governor Dr A.R.Kidwai, Union ministers Anand Sharma, Selja and Rao Inderjit Singh, incharge Haryana Congress affairs Moti Lal Vora, senior Congress leader Janardan Dwivedi, Haryana Vidhan Sabha Speaker Dr Raghuvir Singh Kadiyan, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, president of Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee Phool Chand Mullana, working president of Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee Kuldeep Sharma, MPs Jai Prakash, Arvind Sharma and Atam Singh Gill, Finance Minister Birender Singh, Power Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala, Kuldeep Bishnoi, former chief minister Om Prakash Chautala and president of All India Anti-Terrorist Front Maninderjit Singh Bitta.
