Amritsar, February 3 Amritsar SP (Detective) Surjit Singh will conduct a probe into a gang-rape case, allegedly committed by local-level Akali leaders in Pandori Warraich village, near here.

It was the first case to be registered under the write-your-own FIR scheme, launched by the Amritsar police recently in which a married woman yesterday alleged rape by five persons in December.

She has named five persons, identified as Rachhpal Singh, alias Laddi, Jasbir Singh, Jaswant Singh, Sarvan Singh and Lakhwinder Singh, all residents of the same village. The SP (D) said he had visited the village today to question the two parties and was studying documentary evidences.

“The final conclusion of the inquiry will be out shortly,” he said, adding that a case under various sections, including 363, 366, 376, 506, 120-B and 342 of the IPC, has been registered.

The woman had alleged that she had hitched a hike from the accused in a car from the village on December 23, and she was taken to an abandoned place where she was repeatedly raped. She alleged that she was then taken to Ludhiana where she was kept in illegal confinement for a few days and raped again.

She said due to social stigma, she did not disclose about the incident, but when she saw the accused roaming free in the village she reported the matter to the police through the e-mail.
