New Delhi, January 19 Delhi is set to witness unprecedented security in the run-up to Republic Day amid fears that Jihadi groups are planning to strike. In a first, all security personnel, who will be on R-Day duty, are being verified to check militants infiltrating the security net. These include personnel deployed along the parade route and those on duty at other places across the city.

Inputs suggest that modules of militant groups have been moving in from Jammu and Kashmir to Delhi and neigbouring towns, apparently in preparation for an attack on or before January 26. Security agencies are believed to have intercepted a large number of messages being passed between suspected militants this time.

The police are learnt to be keeping a close watch on 16 police stations, especially the 12 in northwest district — identified as “Naxalite-sensitive”. There is a fear that Naxalites could strike on R-Day.

Union Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta has held a series of meetings with Director Intelligence Bureau P C Haldar and Research & Analysis Wing chief Ashok Chaturvedi to work out the security measures that need to be put in place.
