Vadodara, March 8 A faculty member of applied Physics Department at MSU has filed a case with the Gujarat Universities Services Tribunal (GUST) against the varsity authorities. KVR Murthy has claimed that university officials had suppressed his academic achievements and misled the selection committee for selection of professor in applied Physics under the CAS. Murthy alleged that the authorities fudged his service records showing lesser number of years as a reader in the department. They also made alterations in records regarding the seminars and conferences he had attended, he said. “My date of eligibility for professor was March 28, 2002 [Reader since October 28, 1994]. However in the summary statement, the date was mentioned as March 28, 2004, which is two years lesser than my actual eligible date. This alteration resulted in the committee considering dean of the faculty of technology and engineering, Arun Pratap to be my senior in the department. They have considered his candidature in the CAS,” said Murthy in his letter to Vice-Chancellor, Manoj Soni.

Murthy alleged that his participation in various functions and activities conducted by the department and faculty has also been misrepresented. “I had supplied information through a letter on December 30, 2002, stating that I had attended 21 seminars and conferences. I had also submitted the copies of the participation certificates.” Murthy further alleged that the comparative statement mentioned only eight seminars and three conferences, which he said he has now mentioned in his letter addressed to the V-C.

Murthy said that details of his participation in 21 days of refresher courses and 10 days of workshop on electronics were omitted from the summary statement altogether, though the participation of other candidates was mentioned. He complained that no mention was made of his work in editing nearly five volumes from October 1994 to October 2002 . GUST will hold the first hearing of the case on March 24. Meanwhile, citing examples of various heads of the departments and deans of the faculty, who have been allegedly appointed in a biased manner, BUTA president, I I Pandya said he would take up the issue of appointments under UGC-CAS in the senate meeting.
