The chief minister told the AIGL delegation that the killers of Tamang will soon be arrested. “We are in touch with the Interpol and are also in touch with the Centre. I assure you that the culprits will definitely be caught,” Bhattacharjee told the delegation.
“The CM has assured us that the culprits will be brought to book soon and we have no reasons to disbelieve him,” J N Limba, League vice-president, said after their meeting.
According to state government officials, though the CID has already arrested five persons, the real perpetrators have all fled to Nepal.
The delegation also requested the Chief Minister to hand over the investigation to the CBI, but the CM told them that it was the CID, which would be able to crack the case. “Have faith in the CID. They will soon bring us success,” the CM said.
Minster for Urban Development Ashok Bhattacharya and CM’s Principal Secretary Subesh Das were also present at the meeting.
Bharati Tamang also met Congress Legislative Party leader Manas Bhuniya and sought a CBI probe into the killing of her husband. “We will raise the issue in the House. I called by administrative officials in Darjeeling and asked why the real culprits have not been not arrested,” said Bhuniya.
The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM), meanwhile, today lifted the indefinite bandh it had called on June 19 in Darjeeling — only for today and tomorrow. The Morcha said that on June 25 the bandh will be reimposed for an indefinite period.
“This time we will come back with a bigger force. We cannot be written off that early. This time except for essential services everything will be closed. However, on Monday banks will remain open and on Monday and Tuesday food and supplies offices will remain open,” Roshan Giri, Morcha general secretary, told The Indian Express from Darjeeling.
The Gorkhaland Police (GLP) today vacated its camp at Gorubathan at Kalimpong. Yesterday, the GLP had vacated three camps.
