City-based realty major Ambuja Realty Development Ltd has launched Ganga Kutir — a nature resort located on the bend on Ganga at Riachak in South 24 Parganas, about 50 km from Kolkata. The resort tries to bring in nature and natural living as close as possible.

“There can be an initial slowdown for one or two years but these things are built for long term and we are committed for this,” said Harshavardhan Neotia, the chairman of Ambuja Realty Development Ltd.

“We are targeting bulk of the people from Kolkata. It will be a mix of conference and leisure. While the business conferences are set to occupy the spot on the weekdays, the leisure visits are likely to occupy the weekends,” said Neotia.

According to the officials of Ambuja Reality, the resort that was built over the past one-and-a-half years at a cost of Rs 11 crore, has about 13 rooms. Another 11 suites are to come up with an investment of an additional Rs 4 crore.

The suites, meant to evoke a rural ambience overlooking the river, have been designed by Sri Lankan architect Channa Daswate. The architecture is inspired by the structure of small village or ashram community where the spaces in between the buildings are more important than the buildings themselves.

The suites are augmented with a walk into the swimming pool.

To add to the experience of purity and life on the bank of the river, the resort has a meditation centre, a library and a goshala (cowshed).
