Nangal Chouran (Hoshiarpur), March 4 Nangal Chouran, Kashmir Singh’s native village in Hoshiarpur, today gave a rousing welcome to the man who returned after spending over 35 years in jail in Pakistan. A long cavalcade was stationed at the entrance of the village and every possible welcome, from dhol to a band, Bhangra, Giddha, slogans, garlands and flower petals, was made available. Thousands of villagers of the area turned out to welcome Kashmir Singh back and greeted him with loud slogans of “Kashmir Singh zindabad”.

But the hero of the day was a little confused as he could not recognise anyone in his village, not even his grandchildren. He also failed to recognise his house. When the people accompanying him told him that he had reached his village, all he said was, “Achha, assin pind pahunch gaye.”

The moment he alighted from the vehicle, a huge crowd ran towards him, giving security men a tough time.

Everyone wanted to have a glimpse of him and tried hard to get close to him, leaving him bewildered.

Later, talking to mediapersons, he said he was feeling great after seeing his village after 35 years. He said he had never imagined he would be welcomed like this and everything seemed like a dream. He was then taken to the village temple and gurdwara before he reached his house.

He also said that other prisoners like him in both countries should be released if they have completed their sentences.

On asking what next, he said he will think it over.

His granddaughter Navneet Kaur, a Class X student, was very happy to see her grandfather, but a little disappointed when he could not recognise her. However, she introduced herself to him, after which he hugged her. Gurvinder, his grandson, could not even get a chance to meet his grandfather as he was surrounded by the huge crowd.
