Reddy claims gold in veterans athletics

Lucknow Enthusiasm and a keen sense of dedication towards sports could be seen on the faces of the participants of the 30th National Veterans’ Athletic Championship at the KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium here on Friday. The veteran athletes could be seen flocking the stadium from early morning in order to warm-up before the events. In the discus throw event of the 80 plus age category, P Nateshwar Reddy outclassed the other contestants with a throw of 21.66m . Ajit Singh of UP (19.81m) and P Jagmohan Reddy (10.11m) stood second and third, respectively.

In the above 70 years age category shot put event (women’s section), CT Varamahalakshmi of Karnataka stood first. Sarojamma Rangappa, also from Karnataka, occupied the second spot.

The Results:(Men's section):-High jump (40+): 1st Rajendra C Gaikwad (Maharashtra), 2nd PC Hiremath (Karnataka), 3rd Vinod Yadav (UP);

High jump (65+): 1st BD Savardekar (Maharashtra), 2nd Mansukh Bahi (Gujarat), 3rd Ambe (UP);

Discus throw (70+): 1st LV Rama Rao (AP), 2nd Daljit Saggar (Chandigarh), 3rd P Anjaneyulu (AP);

Discus throw (65+): 1st PS Sandhu (Chandigarh), 2nd K Mohanrao (Karnataka), 3rd Sanjanappa (Karnataka);

Discus throw (80+): 1st P Nateshwar Reddy (Tamil Nadu), 2nd Ajit Singh (UP), 3rd P Jagan Mohan Reddy (AP); Discus throw (40+): 1st Malkiat (Haryana), 2nd Rakesh Kumar (Haryana), 3rd Yogendra Singh (UP);

(Women’s Section):Shot put (70+): 1st CT Varamahalakshmi (Karnataka), 2nd Sarojamma Rangappa (Karnataka);

Shot put (55+): 1st Kanchar Nari (Karnataka), 2nd S Savitri (Karnataka), 3rd Umavati Hoodi (Haryana);

Long jump (65+): 1st S Saroja (Karnataka);

Long jump (60+): 1st Usha (AP), 2nd Pratibha Khare (Maharashtra), 3rd Pramila Nagraj (Karnataka);

Long jump (50+): 1st Mary Hilda (Karnataka), 2nd Kashurani M (Maharashtra); Triple jump (40+): 1st Ranjana Gandhewar (Maharashtra), 2nd Juliet Santhmayor (Karnataka), 3rd V Uma Maheshwari (AP).
