Chandigarh Re-evaluation queries at the Panjab University will now be disposed of speedily — thanks to the ‘Tatkal’ system, which will enable a student get his result within 10 days of filing the request. Those who will benefit the most from this system include outstation students, who earlier had to make rounds of the city to find out their results.

A brainchild of Vice-Chancellor Professor R C Sobti, the system will be effective from the coming academic session onwards and can be availed of after paying a nominal fee. A committee has already been constituted to look into the proposal and will also decide on the fee to be charged for the service.

Professor Naval Kishore, Dean Students Welfare, said: “We are finalising the modalities of the plan. This will help students get speedy re-evaluation results.”

Earlier, students had to file for re-evaluation within 10 days of the result being declared, which took long to come through. This affected many as those applying for a course could not produce their result in time.

Ankur, a biotechnology student of PU, said: “This will really help students as they will get their re-evaluation results soon. Many a times, it is a hassle for those applying for courses, where the marksheet of the previous year is required.”

The university also plans to extend this facility to the issuance of migration certificates, which is sent through post at present and takes months to reach the outstation students.

Sahil Nanda, president, Students’ Council, said: “This is an excellent step and students are very pleased with the new idea.”
