Mumbai Abdul Rehman of Islam Gymkhana fashioned an exciting 3-2 win over Amit Kapoor of Delhi to advance to the fourth round, in the CCI Platinum Jubilee Open Snooker Tournament at the CCI’s Wilson Jones Billiards Room on Thursday.

Rehman snatched the opening frame in the best-of-five contest and warmed up with a good start. But an out-of-form Kapoor managed to draw level on two occasions as he clinched the second and fourth frames to force the decider.

Kapoor put behind his poor form and made a clearance in the crucial fourth after trailing by 22 points. But his challenge ended in the fifth as Rehman surged to a substantial 60-point lead with the colours still remaining.

In other close matches, Hitesh Kotwani and Rahul Narang also registered exciting 3-2 wins to enter the fourth round.

Sanjay Jhaveri of PJ Hindu Gymkhana ended the winning streak of Kekoo Nicholson of CCI with 60-31, 54-42, 63-20 win in another third round tie.

Nicholson had his moments in the second frame and could have stretched his formidable opponent. But Jhaveri held on and made a clearance from brown to black for a 2-0 lead before sealing the match.
