Organised under the aegis of Centre for Air Power Studies (CAPS), the seminar was conducted in three sessions.
In the first session, ‘Security Environment’ was discussed at length. The session was presided over by G Parthasarthy, former Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan. While touching on the democratic differences between the two political parties in Pakistan, Parthasarthy also raised concern on the military equipment supply from China and impending supply of 62 more F-16 planes by the USA to Pakistan.
Ajit Doval, former director, Intelligence Bureau, spoke on the ‘Future of Pakistan’ in reference to the current politico-military turmoil on the Afganisthan border, SWAT regions and Talibinisation of Pakistan.
‘Employment of military power for political effect’ formed the core of the discussion for the second session presided by Air Commodore Jasjit Singh (Retd), Director of Centre for Air Power Studies.
Air Vice-Marshal Kapil Kak (Retd), Additional Director, CAPS, spoke on ‘Conventional War Coercion in a New Environment’ while the ‘Role of IAF in Nation Security’ was analysed by Air Marshal P K Mehra (Retd), former AOC in-C, South Western Air Command, IAF.
The third session was ‘Air Force Issues: Trends and Pointers’.
The session was presided over by Air Marshal PK Mehra (Retd).
