Pune Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) commissioner Praveensinh Pardeshi has approached the chief election commissioner to eliminate the slum rehabilitation scheme to be implemented under Basic Services for Urban Poor (BSUP), as the civic standing committee is yet to take a decision on it.

"I have requested the chief election commissioner of the state to eliminate the BSUP slum rehabilitation project from the election code of conduct, as it will delay the project. I think, the election commissioner could take this issue for a special consideration. The reply is awaited in a couple of days,” Pardeshi said.

Last week, a group of nine corporators from NCP, Shiv Sena and Congress came together and threatened to resign from their posts if a special meeting was not convened over this issue before February 28. Congress corporator Avinash Salve had even tendered his resignation of the civic standing committee membership, saying the standing committee had postponed a decision to pass the proposal of the scheme saying the election code of conduct would delay the project.

A proposal entails construction of 2028 tenements under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission.

The proposal is to roll out the project at Yerwada and the adjoining areas, as that area has more number of slums.
