New Delhi South and parts of Southwest Delhi are expected to have taps running dry over the next two months as the DJB is undertaking replacement work of one of the main water transmission pipelines under the Nizamuddin Road Bridge on NH 24 across Yamuna.

“Due to the work involving the replacement of the water transmission main under Nizamuddin Road Bridge on NH 24 across the Yamuna, the pipeline shall remain closed for a period of 60 days with effect from January 9,” said a DJB release.

The closure of the water main will result in reduction of water availability by 20 per cent. “Water supply will be available at a reduced pressure and quantity in the whole South Delhi and parts of Southwest Delhi during the period.”

The affected colonies and their adjoining areas are Okhla, Maharani Bagh, Ashram, Jangpura, Sarai Kale Khan, Sarita Vihar, Badarpur, Greater Kailash Part I and II, Lajpat Nagar, Green Park, Haus Khas, Safdarjung Enclave, Dakshinpuri, Madangir, Chirag Delhi, Defence Colony, Vasant Vihar, Munirka, Vasant Kunj, Kalkaji and Kalkaji Extension, Giri Nagar, Alaknanda, Okhla Industrial area, Mehrauli, Saket, Pushp Vihar, Malviya Nagar, Sheikh Sarai and other colonies.

Also, due to repair work on a main water pipeline opposite Giri Nagar water emergency, water supply will be affected on Friday and Saturday in Giri Nagar, Govindpuri, Govindpuri Extension, Shyam Nagar, Harkesh Nagar, DDA Flats, Kalkaji Extension, Okhla Industrial Areas Phase I and II and adjoining areas.

“Residents are advised to store water in advance according to their requirements,” a DJB spokesperson said.
