If you are reeling from an overdose of fashion, then this bit of news is probably not for you. The preparations for the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week autumn-winter 2008, which will take off on March 12, are already in full swing. Friday afternoon saw yet another of the customary model auditions that precede the Weeks. Fifty models, both amateurs and freelancers, queued up outside the Eau lounge of Le Meridien for a stringent audition by a seven-member jury, comprising designers Ranna Gill, Malini Ramani, Abhishek Gupta, Anju Modi, photographer Hemant Khandelwal, choreographer Asha Kochchar.

After the initial rounds, they shortlisted 17 girls, out of whom about 10 will make it to the ramp. However, there were hardly any surprises. Sahiba Singh and Ekta, regulars at the auditions, were there yet again, and made it to the final 17. Other shortlisted faces include Aanchal Kumar, who was last seen tangoing with Abhishek Bachchan in the title track of Bluffmaster, and four foreigners — Arasili, Natalia, Yana and Corina. “I am pleasantly surprised by the turnout, and I am not easy to please. Some of the girls need to work a bit on their walk and carriage, but there’s nothing that gives you confidence like experience, so am sure they’ll get there,” said Kochchar. Gill, though, had a few pointers for the shortlisted candidates: “Some of you need to lose a bit of weight, and please colour your hair in one shade. Too many tints don’t do anything for your looks, and groom yourselves to enjoy and adore fashion and to be the perfect clothes-rack for some great outfits.” Well, whatever.
