Surat, February 7 In What could be termed as an act of revenge, a schoolgirl has accused her P T teacher of trying to sexually abuse her, after the former scolded her on finding her alone in a classroom with another boy of the same class after school hours, some two months back.

The 17-year-old girl, a student of Class XII of B K Majmundar High School in Ambach village, and a resident of Pandor village in Valsad district had complained to the Pardi Police Station that Praveen Patel (45), the school's P T teacher had tried to sexually abuse her.

She said Patel took permission from the class teacher and asked the girl to accompany her for some schoolwork. He took her to an empty room and handed her an envelope containing some letters and then tried to sexually abuse her.

The girl then immediately fled to her house and reported the matter to her parents, who rushed to the school and informed the principal, before lodging a complaint with the Pardi Police Station.

Police arrested Patel from the school premises and found during investigations that the accused wanted to give the girl an envelope containing press notes about the recent kho kho tournament the school had won, for getting them published in a local daily in Vapi, where the girl's cousin worked.

Investigating officer S G Patil said, "We have arrested the accused and are interrogating him. We have also talked to other teachers and learnt that the girl was having affair with a boy studying in the same class. Patel found them alone in the classroom after school hours and scolded them. This was about two months ago. Patel later informed the principal and the girl's parents about the incident. She might have kept this in mind and decided to take revenge. We are investigating the case deeply and will find out some more details."
