According to the Faraskhana police, the girls refused to go back as they believed that since they were living in brothels in Pune for several years, the society would not accept them back home.
A team of Andhra Pradesh Crime Investigating Department (CID) along with the Pune police on Thursday busted an inter-state trafficking racket, where the women from tribal areas of the State, were found to have been forced into the brothels in Pune.
As many as 97 girls, inlcuding six minors, were detained on Thursday. Those who were not from AP were released. While 35 girls were arrested and produced before the judicial magistrate first class A M Samant in the Shivajinagar court.
The court directed that the girls should be produced before the AP court on January 6. However, as soon as the lawyers dictated the court orders to the girls, they protested.
The girls refused leaving Pune, saying that they have settled here and may not get any livelihood in AP.
The girls were later brought to the recreation hall at the Shivajinagar police headquarters, where the AP police took them along after much persuasion.
