Kolkata Five-year-old Aman Gupta who was rescued from his kidnappers on Friday was admitted to a private nursing home on Sunday after he started having convulsions.

His condition is serious and is kept in the ICU of the nursing home.

Though the reason behind the sudden illness has not yet been diagnosed, doctors suspect that it could be the effect of consuming sleeping pills in excessive amounts. It is suspected that the kidnappers had forced the child to take many sleeping pills.

Aman was kidnapped by his father’s former business partner Rakesh Singh about a week ago.

On Friday, his father, Pappu Gupta, had received a call from Rakesh telling him that he would find his son near a certain temple in Bakhtiyarpur in Bihar. When Pappu and a police team reached the spot, they found Aman.

The child reached his home in Bally in Howrah on Saturday. He was doing well and had gone to play in the afternoon after which he fell sick.

Meanwhile, the police said that they are yet to trace Rakesh.

“The investigation is still on. We hope to catch him soon,” said Harikishore Kusumkar, SP of Howrah.

Both Pappu and the police have refused to say anything on whether the ransom of Rs 5 lakh, as demanded by Rakesh, was paid or not.
