Research officer suspended for misusing govt fund

Chandigarh A Research officer of the Punjab Legislative Assembly has been booked for criminal breach of trust for allegedly embezzling government funds amounting to Rs 4.5 lakh.

Anil Vij has been suspended after a case was registered on the complaint of Madan Mohan, Secretary, Punjab Legislative Assembly.

The complainant stated that in 2005, the Puinjab government had sanctioned Rs 10 lakh on ad hoc basis to the Punjab Commonwealth Parliamentary Association for the tour to Pakistan. The amount was sanctioned for 12 members for a study tour to Pakistan. While Rs 5,65,920 was utilised for the purpose, Vij was required to deposit the remaining amount in the account of the Assembly. After the embezzlement came to light last year, a departmental inquiry was ordered.

A case under Section 409 of the IPC has been registered against Vij and the investigation of the case has been forwarded to the Economic Offences Wing of the Chandigarh police.
