Kolkata Asking its activists to “put up strong resistance against the politics of killing in Bengal”, Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Sunday asked the people to stand and unite against the “atrocities unleashed by the Trinamool Congress”.

The CM was addressing a rally in Canning in South 24- Parganas organised by the Left Front district committee to protest against the murder of four CPM supporters — Dinesh Haldar, Biswanath Haldar, Selim Zamadar and Khaidul Zamadar — on January 10.

Asserting that if the people did not protest, the “murderers would roam freely”, Bhattacharjee said that seven CPM leaders have been killed in Canning following the Lok Sabha polls, while nine other party leaders have been killed in other parts of the state during the same period.

“People commit murder for money and to save themselves, they join the Trinamool,” he said.

“There is no place for murder in politics because people speak the last word,” the CM added, while assuring that the state government would support the families of slain CPM workers.

He met the family members of some of the slain workers and assured them a job each.

The government will not take into account the political affiliation of people while distributing facilities, said the chief minister.

Three CPM men killed in Birbhum
Three more CPM workers, including a senior leader, were killed in Lavpur in Birbhum district by miscreants allegedly owing allegiance to the Trinamool Congress. The incident took place on lateSaturday night. The victims have been identified as former Birbhum district committee member of CPM Fazrul Karim and active CPM supporters Jamal Sheikh and Thandu Sheikh. All of them were residents of Kajipara in Lavpur. According to the police, Jamal and Thandu were having tea at a stall near Lavpur bus stand when miscreants attacked them and lobbed crude bombs at them. While Jamal died on the spot, Thandu succumbed on his way to hospital. Miscreants then went on to attack Fazrul’s house and dragged him out of his home. They first stabbed him with a knife and then hurled crude bombs at him. Fazrul died on the spot. “Raids are on in different areas to arrest the culprits. We have placed a huge contingent of policemen in the area along with a police picket to control the situation,” said Rabindranath Mukherjee, SP (Birbhum).
