Mohali Fiza gives an ultimatum to Chand Mohd

Anuradha Bali, alias Fiza, on Thursday gave her husband, former Haryana deputy chief minister Chander Mohan alias Chand Mohammad, 48 hours to return to her or face the consequences.

“I will expose him. I will not sit quiet. No politician will again dare to do something like this to any other woman,” the 37-year-old said at a press conference outside her house in Mohali.

“Will he now convert to Christianity and become Peter to bring home a Rosy? Inko talaak dene ki to aadat nahi hai (he is not in the habit of giving a divorce),” she said, referring to their marriage without divorcing Chand’s first wife Seema. Fiza and her lawyer Rohit Mahajan hinted at taking a legal recourse and exposing more of “Chand’s misdeeds”, but said their future course of action would be decided only after the deadline elapsed.

“Approaching police, court, women’s commission, Congress president Sonia Gandhi and all other options are open,” she said.

Fiza also showed a few love letters allegedly written to her by Chand — one of them, saying “I love you Anu” was written in blood, she claimed. Reacting to Chand’s claim that the text messages shown by her earlier may have been sent by someone else, Fiza ridiculed: “Now, he will say these love letters were written by his personal assistant.”

“My home has been destroyed... I’m passing through the most trying times,” she said, having lost all hopes of Chand’s return. She, however, still referred to him as “mera shauhar” (my husband). Refusing to accept that she had ruined Chand’s first family, Fiza claimed he had professed his love for her even in front of wife Seema. “Seema was well aware that her husband was after me. I married him only when he threatened to end his life,” she said.

Fiza said she did not want to politicise her family affair, but asked Chand to come clean on what compelled him to first marry her and then leave her. “Why does he always appear before the media in a car?” Fiza questioned.

Accusing Chand of giving contradictory statements, she said how could he now side with his family members whom he had publicly accused of maltreating him. “If he had not professed his love for me before the media earlier, he would have said now that I had forced him to marry me,” she remarked.

Her counsel Rohit Mahajan, meanwhile, lamented that the “love story” was being ridiculed by the people and had become a “big drama”. Giving credence to his statement, a large number of people from the neighbourhood had assembled at a park facing Fiza’s flat to see her talk to the media.
