Rimpledeep claims hat-trick of titles

Jassowal Maintaining her winning momentum, top seed Rimpledeep Kaur of Punjab claimed her third title in the form of girls' Under-16 title after defeating third seed Rajbir Kaur of Punjab by 7-6(5), 6-0 in the finals of the AITA Championship Series Tennis Tournament being played at the Harvest Tennis Academy in Ludhiana on Friday.

After winning both girls' Under-18 singles and doubles titles yesterday, Rimpledeep, in pursuit of her third title, got a tough fight from Rajbir in the first set. However, the confident looking Rimpledeep lifted her game and won the first set via tie-breaker by 7-6(5). The second set turned out to be easy for Rimpledeep as she blanked Rajbir by 6-0 to walk home with the title. With three titles in her kitty, Rimpledeep has improved her ranking to 9 in girls' Under-14 group.

The boys' Under-16 singles title was won by Maninder Singh of Haryana as she rallied to beat Atul Sri Patel of Uttar Pradesh in straight sets by 6-4, 6-4. Meanwhile, second seed Ronit Bisht of Delhi lifted boys' Under-18 singles title after upsetting top seed Navneet Kumar of UP.

Lt Col JS Maan, general manager, HTA, announced that the Academy will open an International School under Cambridge University.
