Riot of colours at PU

Chandigarh When the entire nation is soaking up to the Holi spirit, why should students be left behind? The Institute of Educational Technology and Vocational Training celebrated Holi with the usual enthusiasm in the Old Correspondence Building at Panjab University on Tuesday.

Students got together and greeted each other with colours. A pushp varsha ceremony was followed by the tradition of tilak, after which students performed a bhangra and danced to the tunes of Punjabi folk songs.

Highlighting the significance of the festival, student leader Ishan Tayal elaborated upon the legendary tales of Prahalad and his aunt Holika. Though the festivities came to an end by afternoon, students could be seen moving around the campus with coloured faces.

Talking to Newsline, Aashish, a student from the department said, “We should celebrate Holi in its traditional form. Tomorrow being a holiday, we planned to celebrate it today.”

Dean Students Welfare Professor Naval Kishore also expressed happiness and said, “It is good to see students celebrating festivals which form an integral part of our culture and heritage.”

Gian Jyoti Global School, Phase 2, Mohali, also wore a festive look on the occasion. The whole campus was bustling with activity and enthusiasm as gulal, water balloons and rangolis greeted everyone. The teachers performed a Holi puja to mark the beginning of the festivities while the school echoed with the enthusiastic shrieks of tiny-tots who danced to the tunes of various Holi songs. Principal Ranjeet Bedi extended her greetings to the students and teachers.

Meanwhile, the Purvanchal Cell of BJP organised a Holi milan programme in Colony Number 4 where NDA candidate Satya Pal Jain was the chief guest. President of the party unit Kamla Sharma, councillor Anil Dubey and president of the Purvanchal Cell V S Pathak were also present on the occasion. Holi celebrations were also organised at Dev Samaj College for Women in Sector 45. Principal Dr Meera Modi wished the staff and students on the occasion.

Dr IT Group of Institutes also celebrated the festival of colours with zeal and enthusiasm with the construction workers and their children, who are part of Naya Savera, an evening school that provides free elementary education on the campus. Managing Director of the group Professor P P Arya wished everyone present.

Punjab Governor and UT Administrator General S F Rodrigues (Retd), Union Minister of State for Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Pawan Kumar Bansal, Mayor Kamlesh, BSP candidate for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections Harmohan Dhawan and NDA candidate Satya Pal Jain have extended greetings to the people of Punjab and Chandigarh on the occasion of Holi and called upon them to celebrate the festival in its true spirit and rekindle the spirit of goodwill and peaceful coexistence in society.
