Mumbai, February 4 From the sidelines of the volleyball court at the MSSA School Sports centre, Ravita Singh rooted for her school Thakur Shyam Narayan High School, Kandivali. TSN high school drubbed Children’s Academy 50-24 in the boy’s under-14 final and after the match Ravita rushed to the court to celebrate with the players. But later she confessed, “My joy would have been doubled had I played for the girls team”.

The TSN HS boys under-14 team took no time to whitewash their opponents from Asha Nagar. Their attack was spearheaded by two national level players_Rishikesh Yadav and Saroj Gupta.

The two spikers hardly allowed their opponents to settle down. Saroj kept on leaping high to gain points whereas Rishikesh banked on his 5’7 tall frame to score. These two cagers were recently selected from Mumbai to represent the state at the junior nationals.

The duo had started playing casually after watching their seniors practising in their school, but their coach and former international Ronny D’Souza smilingly says, “I carefully chose the players for my team and also saw their parents’ height too.” He adds, “I’ve met both their parents and can say that the boys will grow taller have the ability to represent the country.”

The coach also mentions, “We have two courts in the school and practice day in and out.” Not surprisingly the final was a cakewalk for the team and their staunch supporter Ravita says, “The match was one-sided. It would have been more fun had the competition been tougher.” But later swears that her school team is the best in their age group.

Both Saroj and Rishikesh are inspired by the Uttar Pradesh volleyball team and say, “We would like to become as tall and strong as them”.
