Rizvi enter yet another final

Mumbai All-rounder Prithvi Shaw’s impressive century helped Rizvi Springfield, Bandra overcome IES Raja Shivaji, Dadar by a huge margin of 163 runs to enter the final of the Mumbai Leg of the Coca-Cola Cup Inter-School Cricket Tournament at Cross Maidan on Wednesday.

Electing to bat, Rizvi were powered to 291/6 by Shaw's blistering ton in their regulation 45 overs.

The opener smashed 11 fours and a huge siz in his 115, and was well-supported by skipper Arman Jaffer, who led the way with his 63, which included eight boundaries. Danish Mansoori played his part, blasting 35 in just 20 balls with four boundaries and a mighty six. IES Raja Shivaji failed to chase down the huge target after a brilliant opening and were bowled out for just 128. Openers Tanmay Wadkar (41) and skipper Laxman Manjrekar (40) started well, but with their departure went their team's chances, and IES were all out in just 34.2 overs. Sidak Singh was the wrecker-in-chief, clinching five wickets with three maidens to rattle the opposition batting line-up. Shaw picked up two wickets.

Brief Scores: Rizvi Springfield 291 for 6 in 45 overs (Prithvi Shaw 115, Arman Jaffer 63, Danish Mansoori 35) bt IES Raja Shivaji 128 all out in 34.2 overs (Tanmay Wadkar 41, Laxman Manjrekar 40; Sidak Singh 5/21).

Charanjeet's hard-hit ton lifts North

A whirlwind unbeaten ton by number eight batsman Charanjeet Singh and his three-figure stand with last man Nitin Yadav lifted North Zone from 237 for 9 to 365 against South Zone on day one of the four-day Vizzy Trophy Inter-Zonal Inter-Varsities final, here to day. Charanjeet's 118 came off only 110 balls and studded with four sixes and 17 fours.

Brief scores: North Zone 365 (Gaurav Kochar 46, Dhruv Sharya 34, Charanjeet Singh 108 n.o., Nitin Yadav 41; A Kazi 4/86, S Daniel 3/106) vs South Zone 18 for no loss.
