Not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, Springfield Rizvi grabbed the opportunity presented to them by Shardashram English, who put them into bat after winning the toss, and slammed a mammoth 324 for 7 in 45 overs.
Shardashram, who were docked an over from their quota while chasing, for a slow bowling rate, were always lagging on the required run rate and attempts at acceleration resulted in loss of wickets. Their innings finally ended at 236 for 9 in 44 overs, giving Rizvi a 88-run win and their fifth title of the year.
Rizvi lost opener Pravin Kumar cheaply, edging left arm medium pacer Aakash Saraswat to wicketkeeper R Gohil but Sayed Aziz (70) and one down Kiran Vasodia (74) put on a partnership of 131 to set the foundation for a big total.
Alpesh Ramjane then slammed 55 from 28 ball with six fours and two sixes, while Mohd. Sabit hit an unbeaten 37 to build on the good start.
Syed Aziz was adjudged the man of the match for his 70 runs and two wickets. There was consolation for Shardashram English as their players bagged all the individual excellence awards. Vikrant Auti was adjudged the man of the series, scoring 216 runs and scalping 7 wickets, while the best bowler was Aakash Saraswat, who finished with 12 wickets. Raj Gohil took the best batsman’s prize for 252 run from five innings.
