Road safety week to begin today, focus on traffic safety

Ludhiana, December 31 The district traffic police is organising Road Safety Week in the city, beginning tomorrow. This will include awareness drives for children, drivers and pedestrians.

SSP RK Jaiswal will inaugurate the Road Safety Week at National Public Transport, in Sherpur. Speaking about the programme, traffic incharge Inspector Gurdev Singh said, “The emphasis will be on precautions to be taken during foggy days. People will also be told how to provide first aid in case of emergencies.”

Inspector Gurdev Singh added that the awareness drive will include distribution of pamphlets, guiding children about the traffic rules, and also educating pedestrians about crossing the road. “We are trying to involve n schoolchildren in spreading the message of road safety, so that more and more people are educated during the programme,” he informed.

The road safety week will end on January 7, with a special checking drive to check overspeeding and haphazard parking, among other violations.
