New Delhi A 50-year-old security guard was murdered in the Okhla Industrial area. Police sources said the incident occurred around 4.30 am on Monday, when Sachidanand Jha was on duty at a printing press here. The sources said the entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed at different points in the press.

“The assailant, who has been identified by the police with the help of CCTV camera footage, repeatedly attacked the victim with both sharp and blunt objects,” the police sources said.

The sources said CCTV footage showed the assailant attacking Jha with a rod. He had stab marks and injuries on his head too. “The assailant first attacked Jha near the entry to the main building after he had scaled a wall to enter the premises. When Jha resisted him, he attacked the guard with a sharp weapon,” the police sources said.

DCP Southeast district Shalini Singh visited the spot and spent about two hours examining CCTV footage along with other senior officers of the district.

Joint Commissioner of Police, Southern range, Ajai Kashyap said, “We have identified the assailant with the help of CCTV footage. He will be arrested soon.” Police sources said the assailant is believed to be a household painter and police teams were dispatched to search for him on Monday afternoon.

Senior police officers said CCTV footage clearly shows that after attacking Jha near the entrance the assailant dragged him to the basement, where he again attacked him with a blunt object. Traces of blood were found at several places in the press.

Police sources said that after killing Jha, the assailant came to the first floor where a safe was kept. He, however, failed to break it open and the ‘tijori’ was found damaged in various places.

“The assailant escaped from the spot taking with him about Rs 10,000 kept in the office of the printing press owner,” senior police officers said.

A case has been registered at the Okhla police station and further investigations are being carried out in the matter.
