Bathinda The Bathinda police today arrested Bhupinder Singh, the accomplice of suspected robber Pritpal Singh, who had fired at a police party on Friday evening after being intercepted at a checkpost.

Singh alias Bhinda of Kot Bakhtu village would be produced in court on Monday, said Bathinda SSP Ashish Chaudhry, adding that the accused has a past criminal record and a case of attempt to murder was registered against him earlier in Amritsar.

Head Constable Jagjit Singh was shot in the abdomen with a country-made weapon at a police checkpoint on the Bathinda-Dabwali road.

He was rushed to DMCH, Ludhiana, in a critical condition. His condition is now stated to be stable.

While the police nabbed Pritpal, Bhinda had managed to escape.

During interrogation, Pritpal revealed that he, along with Bhinda, was out to commit a robbery at some petrol pump.
