Robbers attack hotel guards

Pune, January 16 Even as Police Commissioner Jayant Umranikar appealed the businessmen to deploy private security persons, a gang of four unknown persons attacked two security guards at the Hotel Konark Park at Bavdhan with iron rods and wooden baton in the wee hours of Wednesday. The robbers however escaped without looting any valuables, the police said. While the injured guards Rajendra Baban Dhumal (45) and Mayana Gogai (20), both residents of Bhugaon were admitted to the special care unit of Sahyadri hospital in Kothrud. Their condition was reported to be serious. Meanwhile, Babakand Durga Saikia (25), also a security guard at Hotel Konark Park has lodged a complaint with Hinjewadi police station in this case. Accordingly, the guards were performing their duty after the hotel was closed at around 12 in the night. While at 3 am, a gang of armed robbers came from backyard of the hotel. They demanded the hotel keys from the security guards. When the guards denied the robbers attacked them. The police said that robbers escaped from the spot as the victims raised a loud cry. Police inspector Bajirao Mohite is investigating.
