Mumbai Five armed men on Wednesday barged into Moti Jewellery, a jewellery showroom at Agarwal Nagar in Chembur and looted around 6.5 kg of gold and 2 kg of silver ornaments. After looting the valuables, the men fled the spot in a car.

According to Police Inspector (Crime) Shailesh Pasalwar of RCF police station, the men were carrying revolvers.

“At the time of the incident, shop owner Chitramal Jain (45) and his son were present in the shop. The robbers gagged them and tied them up. They also tied up a couple, who had come to the shop. After looting the valuables, they escaped in car,” he said.

According to the police, Jain’s son untied himself and alerted the neighbours. Though he tried to follow the car and trace them, he couldn’t find them. The police were summoned and they found the abandoned car at the BPT Road, which is a kilometre away from the spot.

“We have registered a case of robbery against the five accused. We have also sought help from fingerprint experts since we suspect that a professional gang is involved in the crime,” said Pasalwar.

In another incident of robbery at Pantnagar, two motorcycle-borne men snatched a bag containing Rs 2 lakh from a businessman, Ritesh Puriya. They are yet to be arrested.
