Three hundred and sixty five is the number of days it took Nirdosh Sobti and his fellow band member of De Innovatives to write, record, shoot and upload their first video, Duur, on YouTube. With Duur rocking on virtual space, it makes De Innovatives the first rock band from the city to make their own video. “The process began a year back. We’ve been working on our first album, and have written and composed eight tracks,” tells Nirdosh, starting the year on a rocking note.
5.40 minutes is the duration of their track, Duur. “Because it makes more commercial sense,” says Nirdosh. Internationally, the norm is to keep it short, so the guys had to cut their song from seven minutes to approximately five. “That meant rewriting and recomposing,” he got down to the next step - record and shoot.
Six was the number of days it took the band to shoot. Now, here’s the interesting part - shooting professionally meant shelling out in lakhs. “So, I picked my camcorder and shot on my own,” flashes Nirdosh, who had hired a pro but was not very happy with the product. “We wanted the video to reflect our personality, our thought process, so we decided to do it ourselves.” Off went Nirdosh and his team, to Attawa Chowk, the colonies, and captured the local feel. Two is the total number of videos they have shot. “Because many feel that the first one is too real and depressing, so the second one has been shot professionally, with the studio feel and look,” tells Nirdosh, who had a pretty rough time getting permissions, shooting in the rain and that too for 48 hours straight!
Fifty is the number of times they experimented with the track Duur. “Now that we sit and hear the other versions, we have a good laugh,” he smiles. The final version is heavy on Indian classical rock, complete with acoustic guitar riffs and tabla. De Innovatives have also sung and uploaded songs of cover artists like Junoon, Judas Priest et al.
Zero is the number of sponsors they have in their kitty. “But we have our DI Studios where we jam and record, and eight songs on the album have already been done,” however Nirdosh’s not very happy with the mixing, and right now, brainstorming sessions are on to bang some solid financial backing. “It’s not very easy to break it into the professional circle, even the Internet reach is limited….let’s see, what does the future have in store for us!” signs off Nirdosh.
