The Cell received a complaint from the Vigilance & Telecom Monitoring Cell, Department of Telecommunications, that an illegal international long-distance exchange was running from third floor of R G Complex- II, Sector 14, Rohini.
"Following the complaint, we carried out a joint raid and arrested two persons Sanjay Rajvanshi and Satya Patnaik," DCP Special Cell Alok Kumar said. The duo was running the firm under the name of N G Softech since 2006. Three months ago they procured the illegal setup from Cistel Technology in Canada and Nelo Telecom in USA. This system was used to divert the calls from the authorised service providers to Internet and thereby not pay revenue to the government for the calls made. "Our investigations revealed that several International long-distance calls were terminating in to a Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) gateway. "This long-distance traffic is later switched in to the Indian Telecom Network using the GSM mobile phones. Thereby, they bypass the authorised channel and they are making profits without paying the annual licence fee," Kumar said.
The Department of Telecom is yet to figure the exact amount of revenue loss, Kumar said.
