Role of female journalists lauded

Ludhiana, March 8 Renowned journalist Vitusha Oberoi, editor of an English daily, has called upon female journalists across the country to go about their job fearlessly.

Presiding over a function organised by Indian Media Centre (Punjab Chapter) in collaboration with Punjab Union of Journalists and Post Graduate Department of Hindi, SCD Government College, in the college premises here today, she said, “The women journalists should fearlessly perform their duties and never shy away from visiting any kind of spot.” The function was organised to celebrate the “International Women’s Day’.

Vitusha said that the women journalists should never mix the on-going traditions with their professional duties and responsibilities. “A distance should be kept between the two,” she asserted.

Speaking on the occasion, Ramaninder K. Bhatia, a senior journalist, shared her experiences in the filed of journalism. She recalled that in the beginning when she had gone to a police station for the coverage of a spot, the SHO concerned told her that women from status families never visited the police station. However, she said, the situation had changed now.

Mayor Hakam Singh Giaspura said the female journalists were playing a key role in the country and the society as well.

Among others, Rajeev Singh, Resident Editor, Dainik Bhaskar, Ludhiana edition, Dr H. S. Lall, General Secretary, IMC (Punjab Chapter), Virinder Parmod, Jaspal Singh Heran, General Secretary, Punjab Union of Journalists’, Dr Malkiat Singh, Principal, SCD Government College and Dr Satish Kant spoke on the occasion.
