Ahmedabad, October 8 Amateur filmmaker Yasmin Kidwai’s documentary, Chukker Around Polo received a royal welcome in the city of its birth, Jaipur. The grand Rambagh Palace Hotel played host to the screening of the film, which is also being shown at the South Asian International Film Festival (SAIFF), held in New York.

“I’d rather be here, with the people and the sport I started making this film for,” smiled Kidwai. Jaipur’s royal brigade turned up in full force to support the Delhi based Kidwai’s efforts.

“Polo is a glamorous sport because of the style, uniform and most importantly, because of the horses. But polo also needs a Chak De moment for it to go beyond royalty and the army,” explained Narender Singh who plays with the Royal Jaipur team. Fateh Singh, uses his earnings from his family estates to pay for his passion.

“I have Plan B as a career in real estate if playing polo professionally doesn’t work out,” he said . Others present at the event were Maharaja Jai Singh of Jaipur, Maharani Padmini Devi of Jaipur, Princess Diya Kumari, Maharaja & Maharani of Jodhpur, Ravi Raj Singh of Bikaner, Rawal & Rani Raghuvendra Singh and Nawab Dhuru Miya.
