Lucknow, January 7 In view of the recent terror strikes in the state, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) is pushing the proposal of constructing boundary walls around major stations like Lucknow, Faizabad and Varanasi.

According to RPF officials, the boundary walls will not only disallow trespassing by blocking the entry and exit points at the stations, but will also go a long way in improving the safety of passengers.

“For instance, the Charbagh railway station in Lucknow has around 12 entry and exit points. Apart from this, the station has an uncovered area from where people can easily sneak in. It is very difficult to keep vigil of all these places, particularly during rush hours,” said a senior security official.

He added, “It has been proposed that the railway authorities construct around 1 to 1.5 km of boundary wall with fencing on both sides of the railway station.” The boundary wall project around Charbagh station will cost around Rs 80 lakh.

The official further said the proposal had been sent around six months ago, but after the recent terror activities, it is being seriously considered.

Assistant Divisional Security Commissioner R K Singh said, “The boundary walls will be useful from safety and security point of view. The security personnel will be able monitor the situation more efficiently. It will also minimise accidents and prevent stray cattle from roaming on railway tracks.”

Confirming the move, a railway official of Lucknow Division said, “The proposal is under consideration and may be sanctioned soon.

However, while talking to The Indian Express, Divisional Railway Manager (Lucknow), Chahete Ram said that he was yet to receive any information about the proposal.
