Ludhiana A Rs 1,500 crore integrated textile park, recently cleared by the empowered committee of the state government, is going to be set up in Panjava village under Malaut tehsil.

The project with a capacity of 2 lakh spindles, will provide direct employment to more than 10,000 persons and indirect employment to about 50,000 persons, V K Goyal, CEO of the SEL group, which is setting up the project, said on Friday.

The project, targeted to be operational by next year, would produce 40 million metres of denim and 8 million garments per year.

Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal, who was present during the ground breaking ceremony of the project on Friday, said that previous Congress government had neglected the Malwa region and failed to provide incentives to cotton farmers. He said that Punjab government has come out with a new textile policy to set up a textile park in the Malwa area so that multinational companies could invest by installing units here.
