Chandigarh Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda announced today that the Planning Commission has approved Rs 10,000 crore for the state’s 2009-10 Annual Plan — a 50.4 per cent increase over the Rs 6,650 crore allotted for 2008-09.

Hooda said his highest priority — infrastructure development— has been slotted Rs 4,546.06 crore, including Rs 625 crore for a special economic stimulus package covering several fast-tracked projects; Rs 1,399.81 crore for the power sector; Rs 1,715.25 crore for roads and road transport; and Rs 806 crore for the irrigation sector.

Social service improvement — including education, health, drinking-water supply, sanitation, urban development, housing and pensions for the old, handicapped, widowed and the destitute —is second on the state’s list of priorities.

Among other expenditures, Rs 700 crore has been allotted for safe drinking water and sewerage schemes and Rs 720.47 crore for housing and urban development. The CM said Rs 1,056.43 crore had been reserved for agriculture and rural development.
