An Audi costs approximately Rs 38 lakh in the Indian market.
According to police sources, exporter Diwan Wadhwa’s daughter had gone to the mall, and the car was parked outside with the the driver in it. Wadhwa lives in Pushpanjali farmhouse, in Brijwasan, near the airport.
Wadhwa’s daughter informed the police that the car and the driver, Om Prakash, were missing. The police learnt from witnesses that two nattily dressed men drove off after a brief conversation with Om Prakash — the driver, witnesses said, appeared to have gone with them on his own.
But Om Prakash returned to Wadhwa’s house on Monday and said he was drugged and thrown out near Sonepat, a police source said. According to the source, Om Prakash told police that the assailants — “he said they were well-dressed and seemed educated” — moved him from the driver’s seat at the point of a knife and threatened him to keep quiet.
A case has been registered at Saket police station (FIR number 15/09), and a senior officer said the car is most likely in Punjab at the moment.
The officer said another car-jacking incident was reported from Gurgaon the same night — this, too, was an imported car — with the driver pushed out near Malviya Nagar. “A carjacking gang might be active in South Delhi,” the officer said. “We are in touch with Punjab and Haryana police.” Sources said all South district police stations are on the job to trace the car.
Senior officers of Saket police station were in a meeting till late Tuesday evening.
